TRAILS
The Great Route of the Zêzere GR33 – 370 km from Source to Mouth The GRZ is a multimodal trail that can be completed on foot, by bicycle, or by canoe — continuously, in stages, or through combined circuits.
There are complementary routes, such as the Schist Paths, and diversions to nearby points of interest, including Schist Villages, river beaches, and viewpoints.
For cycling enthusiasts, one route begins in Valhelhas, climbs to Torre through the Manteigas Glacier Valley, and descends via Covilhã. The following day, the path can be done in reverse.
CRAFTS & CULTURE
We invite you to immerse yourself in the tradition of basketry by visiting the village of Gonçalo, where you can create your own pieces under the guidance of unique and authentic artisans. In this hands-on experience, you’ll have the chance to learn ancestral techniques passed down through generations, while discovering the cultural richness of this village and the value of craftsmanship in preserving our traditions.
VALHELHAS RIVER BEACH
Located in the heart of the Serra da Estrela Natural Park, Valhelhas River Beach has been awarded the Blue Flag for the 17th consecutive year and recognized as an Accessible Beach. It is one of the most enchanting spots in the region. Set along the serene course of the Zêzere River, this beach is surrounded by a landscape of rare beauty, where nature reveals itself in all its splendor.
It is recommended to arrive early to make the most of this little paradise, where the tranquility of the river and the majesty of the Serra da Estrela come together to provide a truly memorable experience.
